About

What I do

As a devised theatre-maker I have learnt to do a bit of everything. Composing, writing, moving, choreographing, designing, animating, puppeteering, directing and performing all become necessary at different stages of a process. At times I might work on any one of these disciplines in isolation, but I'm most excited by what happens when they all come together. Devised theatre is the ultimate have-a-go art form, as a teacher I try to encourage people to have a go at any of the above, regardless of any past experience.

My Work With Little Bulb

Little Bulb formed at the University of Kent in 2008. Our first show Crocosmia premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it received multiple awards. Since then we have created 14 full productions for a wide variety of audiences and venues, touring nationally and internationally. I co-run the company alongside Alex Scott and Clare Beresford. I am the company Musical Director, but we all do a bit of everything really. We are currently writing an opera for the Royal Opera House. In addition to making theatre we also teach as a company, running a devising module at UCA, Farnham and giving bespoke workshops in a wide variety of contexts. We also perform as a band.

My Music

I have always found great joy and refuge in music. Throughout my childhood I played in many bands and explored composition as a way of processing the world around me. I currently have a number of different music projects. For more information check out my music page.

Composer and Musical Director

My first freelance work as a Composer and Musical Director was with The Pantaloons touring outdoor Shakespeare company in 2006. I toured with them for the following three years performing and contributing music for their productions of Cymbeline, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Taming of the Shrew.

The following ten years saw me working more or less exclusively with Little Bulb until my good friend Gavin Stride got me on board composing music for the Farnham Maltings rural touring production of Brilliance in 2017. A little later that year I was composer and MD for Eastern Angles and Shanty Theatre's co-production of The Lady Killers of Humber Doucey Lane.

Most recently, I returned to Eastern Angles for their 2019 Christmas production The Famous Four and a Half Go Wild in Thetford Forest.
